Introduced fruits
Eight common introduced fruits
Although many of Malaysia's fruits are indigenous, there are some which have been introduced from other tropical regions of the world. These include the papaya, pineapple, ciku, guava, star fruit and watermelon. They are cultivated widely and have become a part of Malaysia's economy and culture. Introduced temperate fruits are planted in the highlands, but they do not grow as well as and are of less economic importance than introduced tropical fruits.
