Plant defences against herbivores

Ian Turner

There are many animals, ranging from tiny insects to elephants, eager to eat the nutritious parts of plants, particularly the relatively protein- and mineral-rich leaves. Malaysia's luxuriant plant growth is maintained through different plants having evolved specific physical and chemical defences against their potential herbivore attackers, and in turn, some animals have evolved their own counter defences.
