Silambam, the ancient Indian art of stick fighting, is one of the oldest forms of martial arts, originating approximately 5000 years ago. Brought to the Malay Peninsula in the 15th Century by Indian traders, silambam has remained popular locally. The Malaysian Silambam Association, formed in 1976, has spearheaded the development of the martial art in the country.
