Karate

Introduced to Malaysia in the 1960s by Japanese instructors and developed by overseas-trained locals, karate experienced a surge in popularity locally in the 1970s with the formation of numerous clubs and associations. Malaysian karate exponents have been winning medals in international competitions since 1985.
