Cycling competitions have been formally organized in the country since 1938. The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) was formed in 1953 and Malaysian cyclists have achieved international success since the 1960s. The annual Tour de Langkawi, inaugurated in 1996, is an important event on the international cycling calendar and draws participants and spectators from Malaysia and beyond.
