Three Malaysian turf clubs in Penang, Perak and Selangor along with the Singapore Turf Club have been organizing horse races since the 19th century. Horse racing has been heavily regulated as a result of the popularity of betting on the outcome of races. Race meetings continue to attract an immense following, and the Triple Crown Series, carrying a prize purse of RM3.5 million, is the richest sporting event in the country.
