The 1960s is often referred to as the ‘golden age’ of Malaysian athletics, when local athletes set the standard for track and field events in the country. Subsequent decades, however, have witnessed the emergence of outstanding athletes who have surpassed the achievements of their predecessors. Only one record from the ‘golden age’, M. Jegathesan’s time in the 200-metre event at the 1968 Olympic Games, still stands today.
