A round of golf being played at the New Club in Taiping. Membership in the club was only made available to locals after World War II, and the first Malaysian president of the club was elected in 1967.

Golf clubs were first established in Malaya by the British in the late 19th century. Since the 1970s, the number and variety of golfing facilities in the country have greatly increased, and Malaysia is now home to 207 golf courses. Golf is governed locally by five organizations, each of which oversees a different aspect of the sport.
