Badminton: Origins and the domestic game
Played in the country since the early 19th century, badminton is one of the most popular sports locally and Malaysia’s international achievements, beginning with victory in the Thomas Cup in 1949, have made it one of the top badminton nations in the world. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), formed in 1934, has spearheaded the growth and development of local players, coaches and infrastructure.
