Volleyball has grown to become a popular sport in Malaysia, particularly among Chinese youth. The game was introduced to Chinese schools and associations in the country by exponents from Hong Kong and China. The establishment of the Malaysia Volleyball Association (MAVA) in 1959 led to the development of numerous leagues and events. Beach volleyball, as both a form of recreation and a competitive sport, is played on many beaches throughout Malaysia.
