Rugby

Ng Peng Kong

From its origins in England, the intensely physical sport of rugby spread to the Malay Peninsula before the end of the 19th century. Initially, rugby was mainly played by Europeans, who dominated the H.M.S. Malaya Cup for decades. Locals formed their own tournament, the All Blues Cup, in 1934, and the sport remained mainly segregated between Asians and Europeans until the early 1960s. That did not stop the emergence of well-supported Malaysian rugby competitions, a tradition which has grown to include the hosting of several international events.
