Cricket

Percy Seneviratne

Brought to Malaya by the British in the late 19th century, cricket rapidly became an organized, competitive sport in the country. After World War II, the Malayan Cricket Association (MCA) was established, and local players began to shine in international competitions. Cricket was officially included as one of the sports played during the Merdeka celebrations in 1957. Malaysia has hosted a number of major international tournaments, and included cricket as an event in the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.
