In the 1990s, online gaming rapidly became a widespread activity among Malaysian youth. Cyber cafés created an ideal environment for people to collectively participate in multiplayer online gaming. In 2008, it is not uncommon to see young adults of all backgrounds playing online games as a social activity, and Malaysian cyber-athletes participate regularly in local and international competitions.
