Malay games

Children playing jala itik, a game which involves the singing of poetic verses.

Numerous Malay children’s games include rhyming verses orally passed down from one generation to the next, adding a sense of amusement to the proceedings. These poetic exchanges also help Malay youths get a firm grasp of their language and heritage. Children creatively make use of plants such as palm fronds and bamboo to play other traditional games.
