Art was first promoted in Malaysia through the Malayan Arts Council who recognized the need to protect and encourage Malaysian art, crafts and culture, and was further advanced with the establishment of the first National Art Gallery. Since then, art exhibitions have been held locally and overseas. The establishment of state and other museums and art galleries added a new dimension of public exposure to art.
