Photography

Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shaha

HRH Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah experimented with colour photography from the mid 1950s. This idyllic photograph, Perahu Biduk (1960), is of a small boat in Terengganu.

No longer simply a form of documentation or visual record, photography is also an art—the image is filtered through the eyes of the photographer (artist) and is in turn subject to the intricacies of its creation and production (medium). In the past, photography was a novelty and the process was more complicated, but with the advent of technology it has become a relatively simple task that can be contrived, taken and retaken, now with the aid of digital cameras. Nevertheless, photography remains a medium that offers the instantaneous capture of a moment in history.
