Jewellery and ornaments of Sabah and Sarawak
The story of gold and silver and other types of jewellery in Sabah and Sarawak is a narrative of their history and links with sultanates in the region and the China trade. Apart from these two preferred metals, copper, brass and less expensive imitations were also used for jewellery and ornaments. Weddings and other ceremonial occasions still provide an excuse to display such objects of traditional finery forming part of a family’s wealth and heirlooms.
