Gold jewellery and regalia

Mohd Kassim Hj Ali

A material originally only used by the royalty and nobility of Malaysia, gold has an illustrious history in the country. Although Malaysia’s gold mines fell into disuse in the 1800s, goldsmiths have continued working, with imported gold, to produce fine royal jewellery and court regalia. From the time of the Melaka Sultanate to the present day, gold items have been specially crafted for royalty, notably the gold kris and pending (belt buckle).
