After platinum, gold and silver, pewter is the fourth most precious metal. It is an alloy of tin strengthened by the addition of small amounts of other metals, and has long been used for domestic ware. Malaysian pewterware is world-renowned. Tin has been mined in the Peninsula for over 600 years, and has been an important source of revenue for Malaysia in modern times. In the early days it was used in different forms as currency.
