Fine wooden architecture has been a feature of many types of buildings in Malaysia for many centuries—examples include traditional Malay houses, istana (palaces), mosques, mausoleums and the houses and graves of the indigenous peoples of Sabah and Sarawak. Decorative carving can be seen in wall panels, balustrades, pillars, roof eaves and gable ends and gateways.
