Timber and forestry
Over the years, the range of commercial timber species has widened with the industrial acceptance of lesser known species as well as rubber and palm wood. To sustain the economic contribution of the sector, the government has introduced various incentives and export restrictions to encourage the development of downstream manufacturing activities. Reforestation and conservation programmes have been implemented and have made Malaysia one of the leading countries in sustainable forest management.
