Housing
Housing is both an economic and social issue. Objectives of the national housing policy include the provision of adequate housing for all citizens, increasing home ownership among Bumiputera, and ensuring that housing not only creates safe living environments, but also promotes national unity. The construction of housing for the poor was once a government-led initiative, but is now largely private sector driven. Upcoming challenges include the provision of low- and medium-cost housing, and addressing the squatter problem in urban areas.
