Rubber
From an initial 22 trees, Malaysia grew to become the world’s largest producer of natural rubber. For decades, rubber was the main contributor of export revenue. Malaysia became a world leader not just in production levels, but in technology and research. Despite a reduction in output in recent years, the rubber industry remains an important agricultural sub-sector because of its links to the manufacturing sector.
