Oil and gas

H. Osman Rani, M. Anuar Adnan and Mohamed Aslam

The petroleum industry is a major contributor to Malaysia’s economic growth and industrialization. The oil and gas sector also acts as a conduit for foreign direct investment and a source of foreign exchange earnings and job creation. The country’s substantial gas reserves, larger than those of oil, provide a platform for the sustainable development of natural gas for use in both the domestic market as well as in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export. PETRONAS, the national petroleum corporation, has played a vital role in rapidly transforming the country’s oil and gas sector into a dynamic and integrated industry.
