Roads and railways

Early rail and road networks linked ports with towns and resource-rich areas such as mines. These road and rail systems played an integral role in the economic and social development of the country. Extensive government-financed road construction occurred in the 1960s and 1970s, and in the 1980s privatized toll expressways were introduced.
