Balanced growth: 1991 onwards
The National Development Policy of the 1990s maintained the New Economic Policy’s thrust of socioeconomic restructuring, but shifted the focus from quantitative targets to qualitative ones. Poverty eradication efforts focused on hardcore and relative poverty. Vision 2020, launched in 1991, targeted the achievement of ‘fully developed nation’ status by the year 2020.
