The harvest festival in Sabah
The annual Kaamatan (harvest festival) is celebrated by Sabah’s indigenous groups who were traditionally rice-farming communities. These groups comprise more than 30 per cent of Sabah’s population of 2.8 million and include the Kadazandusun and their sub-groups as well as smaller tribes belonging to the Murutic, Paitanic and other Dusunic language groups. The festival commences on 1 May and culminates on the last two days of the month, which are state holidays.
