Chinese Peranakan Society
The Chinese Peranakan (Peranakan Cina) were localized Chinese in the Straits Settlements of Penang, Melaka and Singapore who wielded great influence over local affairs until Independence. Also referred to as Baba-Nyonya and Straits Chinese, today they exist as a distinct community and take pride in a rich heritage derived from the Chinese with Malay influences and other local innovations.
