Kelabit and Lun Bawang communities

Ipoi Datan and Poline Bala

The Kelabit and Lun Bawang are minority indigenous groups inhabiting the highlands of northeastern Sarawak. These traditionally rice-farming people produce the famous Bario rice. Like most other indigenous groups, they are longhouse communities, although there is a growing tendency to prefer single dwellings. They have discarded their head-taking ways, and the majority have adopted Christianity over traditional animistic beliefs. Despite the rapid changes in their lives in recent decades, they have preserved their unique cultural traditions.
