Kayan and Kenyah communities

Ding Seling

The Kayan and Kenyah, though ethnically and linguistically different, share a common cultural heritage as they originally came from what is now Kalimantan, Indonesia, in the latter part of the 1700s, and have lived in close proximity with each other in the northern interior of Sarawak. Many Kayan and Kenyah have embraced Christianity and discarded traditional pagan beliefs, yet they have retained their longhouse lifestyle, stratified social system, values and cultural practices.
