The Kadazandusun are the largest ethnic group in Sabah, accounting for over 25 per cent of its population, and comprise both the Kadazan and Dusun peoples as well as sub-groups. At least a dozen Dusunic languages, and many more dialects, are spoken. Traditionally subsistence padi farmers, government efforts to modernize their agricultural lifestyles and improve their socioeconomic status have enabled these people to become part of Sabah’s mainstream society, and several Kadazandusun have become political leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals.
