Eurasians and their traditions
A priest blesses the boats and prays for a bountiful harvest throughout the yaer. This ritual is symbolic of the Festa San Pedro.
Most Malaysian Eurasians trace their origins to the original Portuguese-Malay community of Portuguese Melaka in the 16th and 17th centuries, although some are descendants of unions between other colonial powers—the Dutch and the British—and local women. Through further intermarriage in pluralistic Malaysia, the community today comprises members of different religious beliefs, but the majority are Christian. They have a rich and diverse cultural heritage, reflecting a syncretism of cultural elements, both of Asian and European origin.
