Peoples and Traditions/ Layout and Design

Solid information with visual impact

Peoples and Traditions

The double-page spreads are highly visual, designed to grab the reader’s attention and whet their appetite for the text. A wide variety of illustrative material is used to make the double-page spreads both attractive and informative. This approach allows spreads to be read at two levels. On one level, the main body of the text forms a narrative of the principal subject covered by the spread. On another, the pictures tell a parallel story. They are selected and presented so as to be ‘read’ in themselves. One way of achieving this double reading is through the use of a ‘box’. This enables a short text, accompanied by visuals, to present a self-contained mini-story on another aspect of the spread’s subject.
