Demographics
Malaysia has seen a huge increase in its population over the last 200 years. Initially fuelled by migration—of Chinese to tin-mining areas and Indians to the rubber plantations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries—and the creation of new villages and land development schemes in the mid-1900s, the major source of growth is now natural increase. Increasing urbanization, together with its attendant factors of industrialization, housing development and the growth of cities, is the most distinct trend since Independence.
