Common identity and cultural fusion
Over the past 2000 years or so, Malaysia has experienced the impact of cultures from virtually every direction, resulting in the shaping and consolidation of indigenous traditions as well as the introduction of foreign cultural elements. Much of the present-day Malaysian culture is a fusion of various strands, some of which have been absorbed into the mainstream national culture, while others, although not totally indigenous, are nevertheless ‘Malaysian’ in character.
