Coastal and island groups of Sabah
In addition to the larger ethnic groups, Sabah has a distinct coastal and island population, most of whom are descendants of early settlers from the Southeast Asian region. Some of these ethnic groups inhabit Banggi and its neighbouring islands. Both the coastal and island communities have absorbed the practices of neighbouring groups, they have, at the same time, retained much of their rich and varied heritage, including traditional social systems and culture, which have distinguished them over the centuries and continue to do so.
