Chinese artistic and cultural traditions found in Malaysia were brought by migrants in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Some of these, such as Chinese puppet theatre and opera, are declining arts, largely due to lack of popularity. Others, such as folk dance and music, dress styles and the martial arts, have been maintained, and in some instances have developed beyond their original forms as they absorb elements of other local and foreign cultures.
