Malaysia's second Prime Minister (1970–6) is best remembered for his relentless efforts to improve living standards, particularly of the rural population. A talented administrator, diligent worker and astute planner, he instituted reforms in education and rural development, and was the architect of the New Economic Policy. Although his term in office was cut short by illness, Abdul Razak laid a lasting foundation for national development. He is recognized as the Father of Development.
