The Malayan Union
The Federated Malay States flag continued to be used during the short-lived Malayan Union.
The British Military Administration ended with the establishment of the short-lived Malayan Union, known officially as Persatuan Melayu, which was designed to consolidate British control and improve governmental efficiency. However, the British government anticipated neither a fierce awakening of Malay nationalism, nor a lack of active support on the part of non-Malays who would have benefited from the Union.
