The Federation of Malaya
Stung by the vehement rejection of the Malayan Union by the Malays and the generally unenthusiastic response of other groups, the British government decided to work with the Malay Rulers and UMNO on an alternative. The Federation of Malaya proposal satisfied the three parties' interests, but met with opposition from non-Malays, radicals and communists, who did not participate in the discussions. This time, the British government ignored the objections and stuck to its plans.
