Local government
Local government is the third tier of government. Its main role is to provide people with basic amenities. A key event was the passing of the Local Government Act 1976 and other related measures. The entire structure was reorganized: local elections were abolished, the number of local authorities was reduced, and their roles and responsibilities were streamlined.
