Federal-state relations

Malaysia has a federal system of government, with both the federation and its constituent states having governments. The Federal Constitution provides for a strong Federal Government in relation to those of the states. This relationship has been further reinforced as a result of a party political system dominated by the Barisan Nasional. Several national institutions have been established to enhance federal-state relations, which have generally been harmonious.
