The Alliance formula

As Malaya edged towards independence, it was important for the major ethnic groups to work together in their representations to the British government. An alliance, forged by Malay, Chinese and Indian political parties, achieved this goal through negotiation and compromises among the elites, who represented their respective races in decision-making.
