Sikh temples and worship
The Sikhs believe that the Guru Granth Sahib contains the spirit of the gurus. The tenth guru ended the line of gurus by according succession to the book.
A Sikh temple is called a gurdwara. Wherever there has been sizeable population of Sikhs, a gurdwara has been built. It acts as the hub of community activities. In Malaysia, there are 119 gurdwaras, both in small towns and the larger cities. The first gurdwara was set up in Malaysia by Sikhs in the police force in Penang in 1881.
