Islamic education
With the introduction of the National Education Policy, religious education was incorporated in the national curriculum both at primary and secondary school level. This resulted in a remarkable reduction in the enrolment of religious schools. Islamic subjects were incorporated into the national school curriculum. The First World Conference on Muslim Education in 1977 had a great impact on Islamic education in the Muslim world as a whole, and on the Malaysian education system in particular. The philosophy of the International Islamic University Malaysia is in line with the recommendations of this conference.
