The pillars of Islam: Confession of faith and prayer
Written in Arabic, the kalimah syahadah states: 'There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is Allah's messenger.'
The first of the five rukun Islam (pillars of Islam) is the confession of faith. A Muslim professes to the Muslim faith by pronouncing the kalimah syahadah (confession of faith), by which he accepts the oneness of God. Prayer or solat (sembahyang in Malay) constitutes the second pillar of Islam. Praying is fardhu (obligatory) for every Muslim, as frequently mentioned in the Qur'an.
