Chinese festivals
Chinese festivals take place according to the lunar calendar and mark a variety of events from the changing of the seasons to the worship of specific deities, spirits and ancestors, and the commemoration of historical personalities and events. In Malaysia festivals are celebrated with family members and also the ancestors, who are remembered through offerings made at their shrines. Chinese New Year is celebrated universally, while other festivals vary in importance between the various dialect groups found throughout the country.
