Christianity began in the 1st century with the person of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus Christ is God's revelation to humanity, revealing, on the one hand, who God is and, on the other, what it means to be human. He is thus the mediator between God and humankind for, according to Christians, he is at once human and divine. The earthly mission of Jesus did not end with his death, but continues in his disciples through the Church. Christians discern God's will by reading the Holy Bible and prayerfully reflecting upon its teachings in light of the events of the contemporary world.
