Islam in the 20th century

Prominent Islamic leaders and scholars in the 20th century have included individuals from various fields, particularly education and the law. There have also been a number of Muslim women leaders in Malaysia. The first prime minister of Malaysia, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, established Malaysia's importance as an Islamic country at the international level when he became the first Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) in 1971.
