Toxic and hazardous waste
How is waste hazardous?
Malaysian industrialization brings with it the wonders of new technology and modern products. However, such riches are accompanied by dangerous wastes that can be extremely harmful to human health and to the natural environment. The main sources of such wastes in Malaysia are metal-based, textile and petrochemical industries. Current facilities for treatment and disposal are not sufficient, and as a result some wastes have been dumped illegally. Increased legal policing and a new integrated treatment facility are helping to cope with the problem.
